Attention to all Labuan people, Labuan has been the federal territory, duty free island and IOFC, the only island with three significant status in Malaysia for years. Look at Labuan now, is it really getting better? Are you happy with the current situation of Labuan?
This is actually a thread which has been open for discussion since our previous forum and the following is some excerpt from the previous forum:-

Been away from Labuan for years, although when I did go back for a visit a few years back, I thought that it has progressed quite beautifully, yet a little bit more crowded. Friends from school are still around, it was wonderful to see them all and would love to see everyone again if I ever did go back again. I am hoping that someone would find out about this and could tell some of my friends and come on to say hi...would love to be able to talk to you guys. Thank you for giving me the chance. |

I have been staying in labuan for almost 2 years. Small and peaceful. Most of my friends from KL complaint Labuan does not have enough entertainment and shopping complex. From this point of view, i agree. But our life does not only depends on that and our happiness cannot be measured through entertainment etc etc. There are many values that i see in Labuan that I cannot find somewhere else. Labuan is great! I am going to leave this place soon but surely I am going to miss Labuan and if I ever get a chance to come back here, I will come. |

Well.....am I happy being here in LABUAN???? I do love this place very much but there's one thing that I still cant stop complaining...This place is boring...there's nothing much I can do here. |

I'm totally not happy with this island, smuggle , syabu, ekor haram were everywhere without hiding and they did at the open places. The latest is slot machine, do u think Police blind or they make don't know. We hope our Police here will make one drastic action against these matter to stop all this crazy action, don't just looking and sometime joint them sat infront the slot horse machine.. |

Labuan ppl HAPPY? Of coz, there's no other place in the world like Labuan. It's a place u will be glad to leave behind, but it's also a place that will come into yr mind when u are away too long. God! I missed Labuan soooooo much. Though there's not much of entertainments or shopping complexes (actually there's only one shopping mall... so sad), but ppl have much more important things to do than watching movies in "TGV" or "GSC", or shop their pocket empty. We are rational ppl... hahaha... we spend our time wisely. There's always some benefits of stayng in Labuan, we get to drink, smoke, and drive in 'half price' I cant enjoy that in KL, cigarattes and liqour are damn mahal. Another factor why Labuan ppl are or must be happy it that WE HAVE NO TRAFFIC JAM IN LABUAN EVEN THOUGH WE ARE CONJESTED WITH VEHICLES. I think this will be yr best happiness and stress-release when u are in Labuan. (P.S. If u are under-stress, dun hesistate to email me for the "stress-reduce formula", or if u have any emotional problem, coz i'm currently an amatuer psychologist... that sound gud... hehe... just wait another 2 years then u can visit my clinic... haha... see u then) |

I have been in Labuan several years now. Over the years I have seen the changes take place. Like the building of the Financial Park, the big plans to build the International Golf Course at Kiam Sam. The huge harbour with the ability to berth hugh sail boats. There was even mention of building a bridge to the main land.
I guess we staying in Labuan can now look back and see these changes and look at what has actually happened.
Happiness is not a small word. I believe that we are happy in Labuan now because we do not demand too much. But just yesterday 1st Dec 2002, Daily Express published several comments about Labuan on their 'What the people say' page.
I must admit that I am happy here in Labuan but there should be appropriate changes to make us happier......
I do hope that Labuan will boom into a proper Offshore Financial Centre that will give the Labuan people equivalent progress. Its almost like colonisation if any of you out there understand what I mean. |
so what about you? _________________ Admin

happy in labuan? in a way, labuan is good in term of 'easy life'
other than that are u happy with all the necessity like foods are damn
expensive? are u proud to called this island as free duty with most of merchandise sell in this island are expensive? of course with exception of cigarettes, liqour, chocolate, and some people say sport merchandise are cheap.
so, what's the point of being a free duty island? in the place the 'free duty' should have given benefits to every local people instead of only to some people. |

yeah, some things sold in labuan is really expensive. just because those seller mark up too much. furthermore, transportation cost add up the total purchase cost for retailers.
anyway, if you earn and spend in labuan. it is still more than enough. coz u dont have much other things for you to spend for. no cinema with $10 ticket, no coffee beans with $10 capuchino, no tolls... no place to spend your money unless u go out from the island.
easy life but can be bored. _________________ aLvinHan

After 22 years, I had a wonderful time in Labuan--friends, relatives, dinning, exploring the changes:new streets, new buildings...
The old and the new--fine combination.
From -25c to -45c weather, Labuan weather is a paradise--the beach
is just wonderful, quiet and isolated.
Labuan is boring? Hmmmmm, people are just not creative.
I am sure U can plan with your friends and think of
something wonderful to do.
Have a good time, and
Anak Labuan. |

Well, there's lots of "uninvited foreigners" pestering in the street. They make us feel unsafe staying in our own place. _________________ Don't wait until you are thirsty to dig a well. |
